What should I expect from the Advanced Screen for Female Sexual Health?

The Female Sexual Health – Advanced Screen is a comprehensive test that includes a blood and vaginal swab examination. This test is designed to cover a wide range of common infections and offers a fast and convenient way to monitor your sexual health.

It’s important to note that some sexually transmitted infections (STIs) may not always exhibit symptoms and can lead to more serious conditions if left untreated. In certain cases, it can take up to three weeks for the infection to be detectable through testing after exposure. Therefore, it is advisable to consider the timing of your test accordingly. If you test early, it is recommended to repeat the test after a few weeks for more accurate results.

Once your sample arrives at our laboratory, you can expect to receive your results within two days*. However, please be aware that in some cases, additional confirmatory testing may be necessary, which could cause a delay in receiving your results.

Conditions covered by this test include:

  1. Chlamydia: Chlamydia is a common sexually transmitted infection caused by the bacteria Chlamydia trachomatis. It is known as “The Silent Epidemic” because many individuals may not experience any symptoms. However, if left untreated, it can lead to significant reproductive problems. If your test result is positive, it’s crucial to inform your partner(s), advise them to get tested, and seek treatment.
  2. Gonorrhea: Gonorrhea is a sexually transmitted infection caused by the bacteria Neisseria gonorrhoeae. If left untreated, it can cause severe reproductive and health issues.
  3. Hepatitis B Surface Antigen (HBsAg): HBsAg is a marker produced by the hepatitis B virus, which causes a liver infection. The virus is transmitted through contact with the blood and bodily fluids of an infected person. HBsAg tests are used to diagnose current infectiousness.
  4. Hepatitis C Antibodies (HCAg): HCAg are antibodies produced by the immune system in response to exposure to hepatitis C. Hepatitis C is a virus that causes a liver infection and spreads through contact with infected blood. HCAg tests determine whether a person has been previously exposed to hepatitis C.
  5. HIV 1&2 Antibodies & p24 Antigen: HIV 1&2 antibodies are produced by the immune system in response to HIV exposure. These tests measure the presence of antibodies that indicate the body’s response to HIV. During the initial phase of infection, levels of the p24 protein can be detected, making p24 antigen assays useful for diagnosing primary HIV infection.
  6. Syphilis IgM/IgG: Syphilis IgM/IgG antibodies are produced by the immune system during and after exposure to syphilis. IgM antibodies indicate current infection, while IgG antibodies are produced after exposure and indicate long-term immunity.

This advanced screen provides valuable information about your sexual health, helping you detect and address potential infections. Regular testing and timely treatment are essential for maintaining overall well-being.
