Description

What can I expect from the Allergy Complete – 295 allergens tested?

The Allergy Complete home test offers the most comprehensive allergy panel in the UK, examining 295 different allergens. It is designed to help individuals understand and manage their allergies effectively.

Allergies are a common condition, affecting approximately one in four individuals. Unfortunately, many people do not take their allergies seriously, leading to complications such as hay fever, allergic asthma, or unnecessary dietary restrictions.

With this test, you can identify potential allergens from a wide range of sources, excluding drug allergens like penicillin. Our panel covers nearly 300 relevant allergen sources, including molecular allergens, which provide valuable insights into cross-reactions and enable personalized dietary recommendations for food allergies. Additionally, for symptoms triggered by pollen, house dust mites, or insect venoms, allergen-specific immunotherapy can be directed towards the main triggers.

It’s important to note that allergies are different from less severe food intolerances, which involve difficulty digesting certain foods and experiencing unpleasant physical reactions. Food intolerances are often genetic and mainly mediated by IgG antibodies, which are not measured in this allergy test.

Please be aware that the current turnaround time for these tests is 3 to 5 working days.

What is an allergy?

An allergy is a term used to describe an immune system reaction that is misguided. The word “allergy” is derived from Greek, meaning “unknown” and “reaction.”

During an allergic reaction, the immune system is triggered by normally harmless substances, such as pollen or mite particles. This can lead to symptoms like itchy eyes, rhinitis, or, in rare cases, life-threatening reactions known as anaphylactic shock. Antibodies of the IgE class play a crucial role in the development of immediate type allergies.

IgE antibodies are produced by the body to combat foreign substances like infections. However, in allergic individuals, IgE antibodies mistakenly target harmless substances such as pollens or house dust mite particles. This test looks for elevated levels of IgE, which are responsible for causing Type I allergies.
